This standard specifies the spectrophotometric method, inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry, inductively coupled plasma emission spectrometry, and graphite furnace atomic absorption spectrometry for the determination of aluminum content in food. The first method of this standard is applicable to the detection of aluminum in food additives containing aluminum, while the second, third, and fourth methods are applicable to the detection of aluminum in food. After treatment of the 2-principle sample, in the presence of polyethylene glycol octylphenyl ether (Triton X-100) and cetylpyridine bromide (CPB) in an ethylenediamine hydrochloric acid buffer (pH 6.7~7.0), trivalent aluminum ions react with chrome azurol S to form a blue-green quaternary micelle. The absorbance value is measured at a wavelength of 620 nm and compared quantitatively with the standard series.
