Product Description:

Echinoidea is a class of invertebrates living in shallow waters of the ocean, belonging to the phylum Echinoidea. The main feature is that the body is spherical, disc-shaped, or heart-shaped, without a wrist. Endoskeletons heal with each other, forming a sturdy shell. Most species have complex chewing devices in their mouths, known as Aristotle's lanterns, which have teeth on top that can chew food. The digestive tract is long and coiled inside the body, feeding on algae, hydras, and worms. It is mostly dioecious and undergoes individual development through sea urchin larvae (long wrist), which later metamorphose into young sea urchins. It takes 1-2 years to reach sexual maturity. It can be divided into two subclasses: regular sea urchins and irregular sea urchins, with 22 orders. There are over 900 species belonging to 225 genera. There are about 100 known species and about 7000 fossil species in China. Distributed from the intertidal zone to the seafloor several thousand meters deep, it is mostly concentrated on the rocky or sandy seafloor of the coastal zone, or widely distributed or limited to specific sea areas, depending on species. Sea urchins are the earliest model organisms used in the history of biological science, and their eggs and embryos play a crucial role in the development of early developmental biology. It is one of the oldest marine organisms on Earth. Sea urchins are an ancient species in the ocean, closely related to sea stars and sea cucumbers. According to scientific research, it has existed on Earth for billions of years. In the distant Paleozoic and Mesozoic eras, there were many types of sea urchin fossils, with up to 5000 found. Due to the vicissitudes of the sea, fossils of sea urchins have been discovered in the Tibetan Plateau of China. Many extinct species are iconic fossils of the Paleozoic and Mesozoic eras. The earliest known sea urchins were discovered in rocks in the early Ordovician period, and the reason they survived to this day is because they are a successful and diverse organism. In well preserved specimens, even spines can be preserved, but most of the specimens found are only hard shell specimens. Sometimes independent spines can also be found on fossils. Some sea urchins (such as the discovery of the Cretaceous Tylocidaris clavigera in the UK) have strong stick like spines that make it difficult for predators to penetrate and make the sea urchins appear difficult to deal with. These spines are also beneficial for movement on the soft seabed. Complete Paleozoic sea urchin fossils are very rare, but generally have independent spines and small fragments. Many specimens were found on rocks from the Devonian and Carboniferous periods. The shallow limestone of the Ordovician and Silurian periods in Estonia is very famous for the discovery of sea urchins. The sea urchins of the Paleozoic era may have lived in relatively calm seas
