For example, calcium phosphide Ca3P2 is prone to react with water to generate phosphine and hydroxide; Zinc phosphide Zn3P2 reacts slowly with water but easily with acid. Metal type phosphides include phosphides of most heavy metals. They are similar in composition and appearance to metal complexes, and are mostly not easily decomposed by water or acid
