BAIJIAN - a professional third-party testing and inspection platform that provides relevant testing and inspection services such as testing colorants
Product Description:

Colorants, also known as food pigments, are substances that primarily aim to impart color to food and improve its color. At present, there are more than 60 commonly used food colorants in the world, and 46 are allowed to be used in China. According to their sources and properties, they are divided into two categories: synthetic food colorants and natural food colorants. With the increasing awareness of food additive safety among people, vigorously developing natural, nutritious, and multifunctional natural colorants has become the development direction of colorants. The chemically synthesized pigments allowed to be used in China include amaranth red, carmine red, erythrin red, new red, lemon yellow, sunset yellow, indigo blue, bright blue, as well as various pigments to enhance the dispersibility of water-soluble acidic pigments in oils and fats. There are 45 natural pigments allowed to be used in China, including beet red, shellac red, blueberry red, chili red, and red rice red. Colorants are mainly divided into two types: pigments and dyes. Pigments can be divided into organic and inorganic pigments according to their structure. Dyes are organic compounds that can be used in most solvents and dyed plastics, with advantages such as low density, high coloring power, and good transparency. However, their general molecular structure is small and migration is prone to occur during coloring. According to their sources, colorants can be divided into two categories: natural colorants and artificially synthesized colorants. Natural colorants are carotenoids extracted or processed from plants, and microorganisms. Currently, the natural pigments widely accepted and used in the international market mainly include lutein derivatives and capsanthin derivatives from marigold flowers. In addition, natural animals and plants are often used as colorants in China; For example, ginseng stem and leaf powder, marigold powder, purple essence powder, cassava leaf powder, pine needle leaf powder, orange peel powder, silver acacia leaf powder, carrots, shrimp and crab shell powder, seaweed, etc. are used as colorants for livestock, poultry, and aquatic products
