1. Scope of Application This standard specifies the high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) method for the determination of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAH) in water. This standard refers to six specific polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons analyzed using the international standard ISO/DIS 7981/2 high-performance liquid chromatography. This standard is applicable to the determination of six polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, including fluoranthene, benzo (b) fluoranthene, benzo (k) fluoranthene, benzo (a) pyrene, benzo (ghi) flower, and benzo (1,2,3-cd) pyrene, in drinking water, groundwater, lake water, river water, and industrial wastewater from coking and felt plants. This method uses cyclohexane to extract polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons from water. The extract is passed through a Florisilica column, and PAH is adsorbed on the column. PAH is desorbed using a mixed solution of acetone and dichloromethane, and then determined using a high-performance liquid chromatography equipped with fluorescence and/or ultraviolet detectors. This method typically detects ng/L levels for six types of PAH. The presence of co extractable substances in the water sample that can generate fluorescence signals or extinguish fluorescence can also interfere with this method. This method uses Flori silica column chromatography for purification and separation, which can reduce the fluorescence background. 2 Reagents and Materials 2.1 The mobile phase of high-performance liquid chromatography is a mixed solution of water and methanol. 2.1.1 Methanol: analytically pure, re distilled using a full glass instrument, with a sufficiently low blank. 2.1.2 Water: Electrodialysis water or distilled water, with potassium permanganate added and re distilled under alkaline conditions.
